Meta Platforms Inc. has signed long-term power purchase agreements with US-based energy company AES Corp. for 650 megawatts of solar energy to power its data centers in the Southwest Power Pool region, the companies announced on Wednesday.

The agreements will support Meta’s operations in Texas and Kansas as the company continues to expand its infrastructure to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence and digital services.

Supporting AI Growth with Clean Power

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has aggressively pursued renewable energy to fuel its data-intensive operations. The latest agreements with AES reinforce the company’s pledge to source 100 percent of its energy from clean and renewable sources.

“These solutions support our goal for 100 percent clean and renewable energy and will add new generation to the grid in these markets,” said Urvi Parekh, Meta’s global head of energy.

AES said the projects, which are expected to be brought online soon, are tailored to deliver rapid deployment and low-cost electricity, aligning with Meta’s needs for fast-growing AI workloads.

Economic Boost for Texas and Kansas

Beyond meeting Meta’s sustainability goals, the new solar installations are expected to generate economic benefits in the host states.

AES said the projects would create hundreds of construction jobs and generate millions in long-term tax revenues for local schools and counties.

“AES is proud to partner with Meta to deliver reliable and affordable renewable energy,” said Andrés Gluski, president and CEO of AES. “We continue to be the partner of choice for companies, like Meta, at the forefront of artificial intelligence innovation.”

AES, a Fortune 500 company, is the largest U.S.-based global power provider, with 32.7 gigawatts in operation and a pipeline of 65 GW. It has now signed over 10 GW of clean energy deals with major tech firms, including 7.7 GW in long-term PPAs supporting data center growth.

Bloomberg New Energy Finance recently ranked AES among the top corporate clean energy providers for the third consecutive year.

Meta’s Green Energy Drive

Meta has increasingly relied on large-scale renewable deals to support its global data center network. The company’s commitment to clean energy has been central to its corporate strategy, particularly as it builds out infrastructure to power the next generation of AI and virtual reality technologies.

With the new agreements, Meta takes another step toward reinforcing its environmental credentials while ensuring energy resilience for its expanding digital platforms.
