Tata Power Solar, through its subsidiary TP Solar Systems Limited, announced on Monday that it has surpassed 4 gigawatts of solar module production at its manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, marking a key milestone in India’s domestic solar manufacturing push.

The Tirunelveli-based plant, part of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., has produced a cumulative 4,049 megawatts of solar modules and 1,441 MW of solar cells as of May 31, 2025.

Production Ramp-Up for FY26

The company plans to significantly increase its output in the next fiscal year, targeting 3.7 GW of solar cell production and 3.725 GW of module manufacturing.

This expansion aligns with Tata Power’s broader strategy to reinforce India’s clean energy supply chain and reduce reliance on imported solar components.

With a rated capacity of 4.3 GW expected to be fully realized in FY26, the plant is positioned to play a critical role in supporting India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

Advanced Manufacturing and DCR Compliance

The Tamil Nadu facility has been designed to meet India’s Domestic Content Requirement norms and is capable of producing advanced mono passivated emitter and rear cell, or PERC, and tunnel oxide passivated contact, also known as TOPCon solar modules.

These next-generation technologies are manufactured using automated, artificial intelligence-driven processes designed to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The plant currently supplies panels for Tata Power’s utility-scale solar farms, hybrid energy parks, rooftop systems and select third-party projects across India.

Sustainability and Workforce Diversity

Tata Power highlighted the plant’s inclusive and environmentally conscious design. More than 80 percent of the shop floor workforce comprises women, emphasizing the company’s commitment to gender diversity and inclusive job creation in high-tech manufacturing.

Constructed with green building principles, the facility utilizes energy-efficient processes and resource-conscious designs, minimizing its carbon footprint while contributing to sustainable industrial growth.

Complementary Facilities and Broader Renewable Push

In addition to the Tirunelveli plant, Tata Power Solar operates a solar cell and module facility in Bengaluru with capacities of 530 MW and 682 MW, respectively. Both plants serve the domestic DCR market and operate at full capacity.

TPREL, one of India’s leading renewable energy developers, has a total renewable portfolio of 11.2 GW, including 5.5 GW of operational capacity and 5.7 GW under various stages of implementation. The company also offers electric vehicle charging and energy storage solutions, reinforcing its commitment to integrated green energy services.
