BLS International Services Ltd. said it had strengthened its sustainability initiatives in the past financial year, highlighting improvements in employee welfare, data security, and community programs, even as it faced challenges in waste management and regulatory compliance.

The tech-enabled services provider, best known for managing visa and consular services for governments, submitted its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report for fiscal 2024-25 to the stock exchanges on Thursday.

Workforce and Inclusivity

According to the report, the company employed 737 permanent staff, with women making up 28 percent of the workforce and 12.5 percent of its board, the report showed.

Employee attrition dropped to 24.3 percent from 42.5 percent a year earlier, helped by relocation to modern workspaces, reward programs, and regular appraisals.

The report further pointed out that all staff were covered by health and accident insurance, while 28 percent of women employees benefited from maternity support.

BLS said it had implemented ISO 45001 standards on occupational health and safety and reported no workplace accidents during the year.

Data Privacy and Governance

Data protection remained a priority, with BLS maintaining multiple certifications, including ISO 27001:2022 and Cyber Essentials.

The firm said compliance systems had been embedded across departments, with an ESG working group set up in May 2025 to oversee governance.

“Customer privacy is highly important for maintaining trust, regulatory compliance, and avoiding data breaches,” the company noted, adding that investments in cybersecurity were offset by reputational and business continuity benefits.

Community Investments

BLS spent ₹6.5 million ($78,000) on women’s empowerment projects in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra through NGO Sansthanam Abhay Danam.

The company said social investments helped enhance “trust, relationships, and long-term business success.”

Environmental Footprint

The company’s total energy consumption rose slightly to 1,882 gigajoules, while water consumption increased to 933 kilolitres, mainly from bottled sources.

Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions fell to 342.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, down from 372.9 tonnes a year earlier, improving emission intensity per employee.

BLS said it planned to cut paper use by digitizing records, encourage public transport, and promote the reuse of resources as part of its green push.

Risks and Opportunities

The company flagged waste management and regulatory compliance as key risks, citing potential penalties and reputational harm.

It said enhanced corporate governance systems and community engagement offered long-term opportunities.

BLS, incorporated in 1983, reported exports accounted for 35.8 percent of its turnover in 2024-25. Its shares are listed on the BSE and NSE.
