Seawool Turns Oyster Shells Into Sustainable Fashion at Première Vision Paris
Taiwan’s Creative Tech Textile will showcase sustainable fiber innovations, Seawool and Smawarm, at Première Vision Paris 2025.
Taiwanese innovator Creative Tech Textile, also known as Hans Global, will showcase sustainable fabrics at Première Vision Paris this month, including fiber from oyster shells and ocean plastics and insulation made from it.
The company will present its products from Sept. 16–18 at booth 6S29, branded as Seawool, at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre.
From Marine Waste to Fashion Fiber
Seawool is produced by converting discarded oyster shells and recycled plastics into a wool-like fiber designed for the apparel and textile industries.
The company said just 1 percent of global annual shell waste could generate up to 900 tons of Seawool, highlighting its potential in supporting circular economy goals.
In 2023, Creative Tech Textile reused 100 tons of oyster shells and 300 tons of post-consumer plastic waste in its production process.
The fiber, which has won industry recognition including the Red Dot Award, is marketed as antibacterial, odor-resistant, thermally regulating and machine washable.
“Seawool is our foundational fabric that we like to call the emerald of the ocean,” said Eddie Wang, founder and CEO of Creative Tech Textile, in a statement.
The production method consumes less water and energy than traditional processes, setting a lower-carbon benchmark for sustainable textile manufacturing, the company said.
Biomimicry for Thermal Insulation
Building on Seawool, the company has developed Smawarm, a thermal insulation material designed to mimic the hollow fibers of polar bear fur.
By engineering Seawool fibers into spiral shapes, the material creates micro air pockets that trap heat without adding bulk.
The result is a lightweight, breathable fabric suitable for outdoor gear, daily wear, and household applications, such as bedding and insulated bags.
The fiber is also quick drying, moisture-wicking and static-resistant, according to the company.
Expanding Global Partnerships
“Fashion innovation is rooted in nature, where sustainability and performance go hand in hand,” Wang said. “Showcasing our innovations at Première Vision Paris allows us to connect with global partners who share our vision for a more responsible textile industry.”
Creative Tech Textile is a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and uses the Higg Index to measure environmental, social and governance performance across its supply chain.
