Morgan Stanley’s 1GT Leads $60M Round to Power Clean Shipping Future
Morgan Stanley’s 1GT backs Corvus Energy to advance clean battery solutions and accelerate decarbonization in global shipping.
Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s 1GT private climate equity strategy has led a $60 million series E round in Corvus Energy, the Norwegian provider of low-carbon energy storage systems for electric and hybrid-powered vessels in the shipping sector.
The investor group also includes Just Climate and J. Lauritzen.
The consortium aims to provide growth capital and industry expertise to help Corvus Energy expand its product portfolio and global footprint.
The company develops battery-based energy storage systems that power ferries, offshore service vessels and cruise liners — advancing cleaner operations across the shipping industry.
“Corvus Energy is the global market leader for a reason — its battery systems have an unmatched record of maritime safety, innovation and competitiveness,” said Vikram Raju, head of climate private equity investing at MSIM and 1GT. “Maritime decarbonization is a core theme for 1GT, and we are honored to support Corvus in this next phase.”
Corvus Strengthens Market Leadership
Founded in 2009 and based in Bergen, Norway, Corvus Energy is one of the leading suppliers of zero-emission maritime systems.
Its products combine advanced lithium-ion battery technology with intelligent energy management software, enabling vessels to achieve low- or zero-emission operations in global shipping markets.
Chief Executive Fredrik Witte said the new investment will help Corvus meet surging global demand for clean maritime solutions. “Their support affirms Corvus’s position as the market leader in maritime energy storage and provides the capital and strategic backing we need to accelerate global growth,” he said.
Expanding Global Footprint
Corvus Energy operates one of the world’s largest installed bases of maritime energy storage systems, with more than 1,300 installations across Europe, North America and Asia. These systems deliver over 1,300 megawatt-hours of clean power to global shipping fleets.
MSIM’s Climate Private Equity group manages 1GT, which invests in growth-stage companies that deliver scalable climate solutions. The strategy targets decarbonization opportunities across power, mobility, food and agriculture and circularity in North America and Europe.
As of June 30, 2025, Morgan Stanley Investment Management had $1.7 trillion in assets under management and over 1,400 investment professionals worldwide.
