Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Co., a unit of the Public Investment Fund, has signed a letter of intent with Switzerland-based Syngenta Crop Protection AG to develop joint agricultural projects aimed at strengthening food security in Saudi Arabia and globally.

The agreement sets the stage for cooperation in sustainable farming, digital agriculture, soil health, and crop protection solutions.

Both companies said the initiative reflects their shared goal of building a more resilient global food security system through technology and responsible agricultural practices.

The collaboration will also explore climate-smart farming, soil regeneration methods, and water conservation.

Additional areas of focus include developing digital farm management platforms and creating centers of excellence to promote best practices and technical training.

Empowering Farmers and Strengthening Food Systems

“This collaboration with Syngenta reflects SALIC’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global partnerships,” said Suliman Al-Rumeih, group CEO of SALIC. “Together, we aim to transform agriculture by integrating technology, knowledge, and responsible practices – empowering farmers, conserving resources, and building resilient food systems that strengthen Saudi Arabia’s food security.”

Alexander Berkovskiy, regional director for AMEA at Syngenta, said the partnership aligns with Syngenta’s mission to make agriculture more sustainable.

“Through this collaboration, we will help agriculture transform by exploring innovative and sustainable solutions, education and training to equip farmers for success,” he said.

Aligning With Saudi Vision 2030

The initiative supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy and enhance food security.

Working groups from both entities will identify and prioritize specific projects aligned with the Kingdom’s agricultural sustainability goals.

SALIC, founded in 2012, invests across the agri-food value chain, including grains, livestock, processing and agri-tech ventures.

Syngenta, which operates in more than 90 countries, focuses on crop protection and seed technologies that promote sustainable farming and higher yields.

Building Global Food Resilience

By pooling expertise, SALIC and Syngenta aim to develop scalable agricultural solutions that can benefit farmers worldwide. The collaboration is expected to advance food system resilience, particularly in arid regions where resource efficiency is crucial.

Both firms emphasized that their joint efforts will not only address local challenges in Saudi Arabia but also contribute to global initiatives for sustainable and secure food security.
