Red Sea Global Opens Saudi Arabia’s 1st Regenerative Island Golf Course
Shura Links showcases Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Regenerative tourism, blending luxury golf with sustainability at the Red Sea.
Real estate developer Red Sea Global announced on Tuesday the launch of Shura Links, Saudi Arabia’s first island golf course, on Shura Island at the Red Sea, marking a new step in the Kingdom’s push to expand luxury tourism and sports.
U.S. golf architect Brian Curley designed the par-72, 7,400-yard course, and Golf Saudi will manage it. It winds through mangroves and dunes before tracing the Red Sea shoreline in traditional links fashion.
RSG said the course minimizes environmental impact, aligning with the developer’s regenerative tourism model.
“The opening of Shura Links is a landmark achievement in the Kingdom’s pursuit of global leadership in sports and tourism,” said Yasir Al-Rumayyan, chairman of Golf Saudi. “It reflects Saudi Vision 2030 and underscores PIF’s commitment to unlocking new sectors that diversify our economy and elevate the quality of life.”
The PIF stands for the Public Investment Fund, which is the Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund and one of the largest in the world.
Clubhouse Anchors Social Experience
At the center of the destination is a beachfront clubhouse designed as a social hub. Inspired by native flora, it offers panoramic views across the 18th green.
The facility features dining, retail, and relaxation areas, aiming to elevate visitor experiences. “Shura Links sets a new benchmark for the game of golf in the region,” said John Pagano, chief executive of RSG. “It’s more than just a course – it’s a place to connect, challenge yourself, and experience the full beauty of the Red Sea.”
Pagano added that the course highlights RSG’s mission to reshape global tourism through regenerative design and responsible development.
Premium Offerings for Golfers
The course offers a grass practice range, short game area, and professional coaching led by an on-site PGA pro. Golfers can choose nine- or 18-hole play, with tailored green fee options.
Other highlights include an adventure putting course for families, Callaway practice balls, a curated retail boutique, and dining indoors or poolside at the clubhouse.
Curley said Shura Links was designed to merge seamlessly with white sand dunes while remaining accessible to all skill levels. “It’s built to challenge professionals yet still inviting for newcomers,” he said.
Part of a Wider Destination Strategy
Shura Island, which is preparing to open to guests, will eventually host 11 resorts, including Four Seasons, Rosewood, and Jumeirah. Three hotels – SLS, EDITION, and InterContinental – are opening in the first phase.
Exclusive homes will also be available, with the first properties expected to be handed over by the end of 2025.
Access to the island is through Red Sea International Airport, which already handles domestic and international flights. Qatar Airways will begin direct service to the airport next month, with additional carriers expected.
Noah Alireza, chief executive of Golf Saudi, said Shura Links strengthens Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a global golf destination. “It is a showcase of innovation and regenerative sustainability,” he said. “The course will anchor the Kingdom’s golf tourism trail and serve as an entry point for international visitors.”
